How This Tutorial Is Different

I remember when I decided to start my first blog.  I found a great video on how to launch a self-hosted WordPress blog in less than 20 minutes.  And, in less than twenty minutes I had my blog.  However, it was ugly.  It looked nothing like I wanted it to.  My 20 minutes project turned into hours and eventually weeks.

I had a lot to learn that wasn’t covered in that step by step video on getting a domain name and setting up a WordPress blog on Bluehost.

Now, I design websites and set up blogs for friends and clients as a side job.  But, I still meet lots of people who want to do it themselves.

I have decided to capture the process here of going from nothing to a fully functioning website.  I’m going to use all “do-it-yourself” friendly resources.  There are ways I do things that most professionals would cringe at.  And I’m okay with that.  Cringe away.  How I do it isn’t wrong, it’s just “weekend website warrior” friendly.

I’ll be using the following:

When finished with the project website we will have:

  • Registered a domain.
  • Installed WordPress onto the website.
  • Installed a theme.
  • Setup an email capture list.
  • Set the site to back up safely.
  • Setup social media connections to the new website.
  • Explored the entire backend of the website and discover how we can edit a WordPress site to get it to look the way we want.

PLEASE NOTE:  This is an ongoing project.  Instead of waiting until I’m completely finished with all the videos, I’m going to go ahead and publish what I have when I have it.  When you start following along with these videos to start a blog, if you get stuck because something is missing or it has yet to be published, simply drop my an email and I will do what I can to help you.
